How to Care for a Miniature Bamboo Plant
Although there are many varieties of bamboo, some of which can work as a miniature planting, the most common miniature bamboo is Lucky bamboo. Lucky bamboo is actually a form of water lily and grows in water, not soil. As such, it requires different care from other bamboos and soil-based plants. Keep your bamboo in indirect light. Direct sunlight can lead to yellowing your bamboo and its leaves.

Change the water in your lucky bamboo once a week. Keep water around one inch from the base of the canes.

Keep your bamboo in temperatures between 65 and 70 degrees F if possible. Although it can tolerate higher temperatures in the summer, temperatures below that can harm your bamboo.

Fertilize your bamboo with small amounts of African violet fertilizer. You can control the size of your miniature bamboo by fertilization. Add more fertilizer to allow it to grow larger. Restrict the amount of fertilizer to limit the size of your miniature bamboo.

Re-pot your miniature bamboo in a pot 2 inches larger than its root structure if it becomes root bound.

Tips & Warnings
If you want to grow your miniature bamboo in soil, use a little loose sand at the bottom of the water container to help hold it in place. Make sure the soil you use offers good bottom drainage and doesn't compact under the water.
