How to Clean Gold Flatware

Gold flatware is constructed by applying a thin layer of gold over a harder metal, such as nickel or stainless steel. Because the gold is a layer placed on the flatware, and not the base construction material, it is important to clean the gold flatware in a manner than does not remove any of the gold finish from the base metal. While some manufacturers claim their products are dishwasher safe, if you are unsure, it is always safest to clean the flatware by hand. Does this Spark an idea?
