How to Use Bronner's for Automatic Dishwashers

Sommer Leigh

Dr. Bronner's Castile soaps are vegetable-oil-based soaps, as opposed to animal-fat-based soaps, with no blends of detergents. The company claims its products are more environmentally safe because their pure formulation does not create a hazard when it runs off into streams or other waterways. Dr. Bronner's soap comes in several varieties, including peppermint, orange, lavender, unscented and tea tree. It has a multitude of uses as a personal cleanser, but is also used for household cleaning, including as an automatic dishwasher detergent. When combined with other ingredients, you may find that it will completely replace your commercial brand of detergent.

Step 1

Pour equal parts of Dr. Bronner's Castile soap, water and vinegar in a bowl. Add 1 teaspoon of lemon juice to the bowl for each 1/2 cup of Castile soap used.

Step 2

Stir the mixture well and pour it into a clean squeeze bottle.

Step 3

Squirt 2 tablespoons of the mixture into the detergent dispenser before running a dishwasher cycle.

Step 4

Fill the rinse dispenser with white vinegar for the rinse agent instead of using a commercial, chemical-based product.
