How to Clean Your Face With Oil

Most commercial skin-cleansing products, such as soaps and creams, contain synthetics, harsh detergents and other chemical ingredients that can strip your skin of its natural oils. Soaps and creams can also cause skin eruptions and irritations in some sensitive individuals. Cleansing your face with natural oils will help maintain your skin's natural lubrication, dissolve hardened impurities in the pores, feed the skin antioxidants to prevent wrinkles and keep it healthy so that it functions properly.

Purchase the ingredients for your skin-cleansing oil. There are many over-the-counter commercial cleansing oils available at department and drug stores, but they usually contain preservatives and artificial ingredients that can irritate your skin. To make your own skin cleansing oil, purchase castor oil, olive oil and sunflower seed oil, all of which are available at most health food and grocery stores.

Prepare your skin-cleansing oil. For dry skin, mix 10 percent castor oil with 90 percent sunflower seed oil. For oily skin, mix 30 percent castor oil with 70 percent sunflower seed oil. For normally balanced skin, mix 20 percent castor oil with 80 percent sunflower seed oil. Instead of sunflower seed oil, you can also use cold-pressed olive oil. Castor oil is an excellent natural skin cleanser. In addition to being effective moisturizers, olive oil and sunflower seed oil are rich in antioxidants. Store your skin-cleansing oil in a small glass jar, and keep in your bathroom.

Pour a generous amount of oil into the palm of your hand. Close your hands together to warm the oil and then gently smooth it over your face. Continue to massage the cleansing oil into your face and pores, removing dirt, makeup and other impurities. Spend some time rubbing the oils into your nose, cheeks, chin and under the eyes, and other areas where you're prone to having problem skin.

Hold your washcloth for a few seconds under hot running tap water. It should be warm enough to open your pores and remove any impurities. Gently drape the washcloth over your face and allow it to remain, until it cools.

    Tips & Warnings

    • If your skin feels tight after cleansing it with oil, massage a few drops of an all-natural moisturizer into your face.
