How to Make a Fairy Godmother Wand
Whether she's just seen "Cinderella" for the first time or she needs a wand for a costume party, a little girl loves to play with a fairy godmother wand. While many new toys are expensive and don't allow for much imagination, a wand you can make with your daughter is a project that will give her much enjoyment, both while she's making it and when it's ready to make "magic." With a little glue and creativity, she'll be casting magic spells in no time.
Things You'll Need
- Scissors
- Card stock paper
- Glue (both glue stick and liquid glue)
- Glitter
- Wooden stick
- Ribbon (optional)

1
Use the scissors to cut two stars (approximately 3 to 4 inches big) out of card stock paper or thick construction paper. Do this by layering the papers on top of one another and cutting the shape out of both pieces at the same time to ensure the stars match up completely.
-
2
Put glue on one side of each star cutout. Use a glue stick for minimal mess, but any type of glue will work. If you use a liquid glue, put on a thin layer and smooth it out on the star with your fingers. Lay the star cutouts on a flat surface, glue side up.

Sprinkle glitter over the stars on top of the glue. Cover the stars completely with the glitter. Use glitter of any color, although using silver or gold will enhance the shine and aspect of a fairy godmother's wand. Let the stars dry completely, and then shake the excess glitter off of the dried stars.

4
Choose a wooden stick that is approximately 15 inches long (anywhere between 12 and 20 inches will work). The wand needs to have some length but should not be long enough to snap in half with a lot of movement. The stick can be anything from a natural twig found outside or something purchased at a craft store.

5
Put a drop of liquid glue on the tip of the stick to cover the top inch or so. Put the glue on all around the tip, and then stick one paper star cutout to the tip with the glitter side facing out. Carefully glue the other star to the other side so that the cutouts match up. Put a little extra glue in between the star cutouts and glue them together completely. Let everything dry before proceeding.

6
Use the wand as is after everything is dry, or add ribbon to your wand to simulate the "magic" happening with every touch. Attach five strands of ribbon (approximately 6 to 8 eight inches long) to the base of the star on the stick. Either glue the ribbon pieces onto the stick or simply tie the strands onto the stick at the base of the star.

If you use a natural twig, make sure there are no thorns or other elements that may hurt children.
