How to Make a Hexagon on Grid Paper

A hexagon is polygon with six different sides. Regular hexagons are six-sided polygons with sides of equal length. You have most likely seen a hexagon if you have examined bee hives, which are typically comprised of different hexagons. Drawing a hexagon is relatively easy--all you need is a sheet of grid paper and a pencil.

Things You'll Need

• Grid paper
• Pencil

Instructions

1. Draw a square on your grid paper. Use more boxes of the grid paper to draw a large hexagon; less boxes to draw a small hexagon. For this example, draw a square that is five boxes long by five boxes deep. Press down lightly on the pencil when drawing the square.

2. Darken the lines of the three middle boxes on the top and the bottom of your square. This will form the top and bottom of your hexagon.

3. Draw a small circle in the middle of each side of your square except for the top and the bottom. This circle will act as a guidepost to help you draw the the angles of the hexagon and complete the figure.

4. Connect lines from the circle you drew in Step 3 to the edges of the darkened lines you made in Step 2. The angle of the line should be equal for each line you draw. You should draw four lines; each line should begin at the center of the circle and end at the edge of one of the darkened lines made in Step 2.
