How to Display Award Pins on Badges

Did your company award you with a small lapel pin encrusted with gem stones for your 5- or 10-year anniversary at work? A special award pin deserves a prominent place on your uniform, but perhaps you don't want the hassle of attaching the pin to your shirt and taking it off every day after work. Solving this problem is easy. Consider using a badge lanyard to display your award pins. This way, you can wear the pins every day.

Purchase a badge lanyard. Lanyards essentially are strips of fabric that are sewn together like a necklace and have a clasp for a badge. You can attach your employee badge to the lanyard by opening the clasp, slipping the clasp prong through the hole in the employee badge and releasing the clasp so that it closes. Purchase lanyards from online vendors or from home construction or office supply stores such as Home Depot and Staples, respectively.

Remove pin backing. Lapel pins often have backs that release by placing two fingers over the two prongs on the back of the pin and then squeezing. Pull off the back, and place it on the table.

Attach the pin to the lanyard. Stick the pin through the lanyard fabric. Pick up the pin backing. Squeeze the two prongs on the pin backing, and slide the backing onto the pin needle. Release and repeat until your pins line your lanyard in decreasing size from the top. Consider placing large or heavy pins on the bottom of the lanyard or closer to the employee badge. Place smaller pins near the top of the lanyard. This will prevent your lanyard from falling sluggishly around your neck because of disproportionate weight.
