How to Raise Fishing Worms for Free
Fishing worms are essential to successful fishing, and many fisherman simply run down to the local tackle shop whenever they need new worms. However, at a few dollars for every dozen worms, you could save a considerable amount of money by raising your own fishing worms for free at home. Luckily, raising fishing worms is not difficult, and anyone can do it with a bit of work and ingenuity.

Use a saw to cut a 55-gallon plastic drum in half and flip each end over so that the closed end is sitting on the ground and the open end is facing up.

Use a drill to drill a half a dozen holes in the bottom to allow water to drain through the soil freely.

Line the bottom of the drums with moistened newspaper clippings, and then fill the drums the rest of the way up with soil.

Place a dozen or more nightcrawlers in the soil in each one of the drums.

Spray the soil down thoroughly with a garden hose once a week to keep the soil moist.

Every few weeks toss in some food scraps (apple peels, bananas, table scraps) and work it into the soil with a spade. This will provide the nutrients and food required to grow large fishing worms.

Tips & Warnings
You can add some coffee grounds to the soil once a month to keep the soil fresh and nutrient rich. You can usually get free grounds from a local coffee shop.
