Remove worms by hand and discard. This is the most effective but tedious method of worm removal from your columbine plant. Leaf miner worms hide themselves in the layers of the leaves so you might need to crush the leaf and worm together instead of picking the worm off the leaves.

Apply insecticide, following directions carefully. Application should take place on a cloudy but dry day. Insecticide is most effective when applied in early spring before eggs are laid.

Cut off any leaves that the worms have tunneled in and discard. Worm eggs or larvae may be present in the leaves yet invisible to the naked eye. New growth should appear free of worms.
