How to Tighten Skin With Elastic Body Wrap


Body wraps are natural mixtures of herbs or mineral rich clays designed to detoxify the body. Essential oils may be added for aromatherapy. When undergoing a body wrap treatment, the arms, legs and torso are usually wrapped in elastic bandages that have been soaked in a body wrap solution. Skin care professionals say that body wraps tighten skin by forcing toxins to be expelled by means of the body’s lymphatic system.

How to Do a Body Wrap

Lay a large towel down on the floor where you will be applying the body wrap. This is also where all of the other supplies needed to complete the body wrap should be gathered.

Mix the wrap solution in a bucket. Seaweed and coffee solutions are recommended as skin tightening body wraps for their detoxifying effects, as well as their ability to stimulate the fibers under the skin and decrease water retention, resulting in tighter skin tone.

A seaweed and coffee body wrap solution can be made by adding 1 cup of kelp (a type of seaweed), which can be bought at a health food store, with 1 cup of coffee from your pantry to 8 cups of boiling distilled water. The purpose of the bandages is to hold the body wrap on so the product penetrates skin. When you reach the knee of the first leg, stop and do the second leg up to the knee. As you reach the end of a bandage, you will secure it to itself with a large safety pin. Do not leave any skin exposed. Start the next roll of bandages where the last one stopped. From the knees, you will wrap up to the groin area, one leg a time.

Apply the elastic bandages that have been soaked in seaweed body wrap from the hips to under the arms. You may need help with this step.

Move to the arms. Complete wrapping both lower arms before moving to the upper arms.

Carefully put on the PVC workout suit. This can be purchased in a sporting goods store. The suits are usually one size fits all and secure with pull strings.

Relax for 45 to 60 minutes while the body wrap is soaking into the skin. Drink plenty of water during this time do help flush toxins out of your system. The release of toxins will reduce puffiness, resulting in tighter, firmer looking skin.

Remove the elastic bandages and shower.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not wrap the elastic bandages too tight as this will cut off circulation.
  • After all of the bandages are on, the body wrap solution may run down to the feet. Be careful that you do not slip and fall.
  • Before beginning to apply the elastic bandages, be sure that the water has cooled down enough so that you will not burn the skin.
