When you are designing or remodeling your home, you could probably benefit from using online room planning tools. When you plan a room layout online, you can quickly make adjustments without the need to redraw the design by hand. You can find both free and paid online applications that allow you to plan a room layout. You may want to try out multiple programs in order to access as many design features as possible. Find an online program that you want to use for your room layout design. Some examples of applications that you can access online include My Deco and SmartDraw. Both programs are free to use.

Start by building the walls of the room you wish to redesign. Online programs allow you to choose the structure of your room from templates or use building tools to drop and drag the walls, windows, doorways and floors.

Enter the dimensions of your room into the online program. To modify the room, you will need to enter the room's height, width and length in meters.

Furnish the room. Under "Furnish," you will find a library of furnishings to add to the room layout. Categories include tables, desks, beds, appliances, lighting and seating. Click on the image of the furnishing you want to add to the layout and click on the space in the room where you want to place the object.

Decorate the room layout. The online room design program will also allow you to choose your decorating materials. Select your paint colors, wallpaper, carpet, tile flooring and wood. Click "View" to access different parts of the room and drag and drop the design elements.

Save your creation when you are finished and print out the layouts in order to start redesigning your space. You can also save the layout under your "My Projects" tab and return to it later to make edits.
