Purchase mascara in a dark shade of black. There are several colors of mascara to choose from, ranging from clear to brown to the blackest black. The darker your original mascara color, the darker the end result will be.

Remove the wand from the mascara bottle, and wipe off any excess with a tissue in order to avoid clumping.

Apply the first coat of mascara to your eyelashes. Start at the corner of your eye and work your way to the outer edge. Many women forget about the bottom lashes, which are usually pale. However, by applying the mascara to the bottom lashes, the color will seem darker and your eyes will pop.

Wait for 30 to 45 seconds to let the base coat of mascara dry. This will prevent unsightly clumps and allow for a smoother application process.

Dip your wand into the mascara bottle again. Repeat the wipe-off process, if necessary. Apply a second and third coat. Some women's lashes hold about five coats of mascara without clumping. The more layers you apply, the darker and more dramatic looking your end result will be.
