How to Use a Hewlett Packard Officejet Scanner
An Officejet scanner is a scanner that comes with an all-in-one HP printer. Having a scanner in a single unit with a printer allows the device to function as a copier, as well. While your HP Officejet scanner should operate smoothly most of the time, there are times when it may malfunction. Even when it is functioning properly, there are methods you can use to increase your scanning efficiency. The best way to scan with your HP all-in-one printer is by using the HP Solution Center, which comes with new HP printers.

1
Ensure that the HP all-in-one printer is properly plugged into the power and connected to the computer. Install the software CD that came with your printer. If you don't have a CD or wish to download and install the latest software for your all-in-one device, navigate to the HP website and search on your printer's model number. Click on "Software and Driver Downloads." Select your operating system, then choose the "Full Feature Software and Driver" link.

Click "Start," "All Programs," "HP" and select "HP Solution Center." Click "Settings," "Scan Settings" and then "Scan Document Settings." Select the preferred resolution. 200 pixels per inch (ppi) should be sufficient for most scanning projects, especially producing digital images for publication on the Internet. Set the ppi higher only if you plan to print the document at high resolution.

4
Set the place you would like the scan to go under "Scan to." Select "Save to File" if you'd like to save it to the hard drive. Select the file type. For the highest resolution scan, select ".bmp." Select ".jpg" if you need to save space on your hard drive. If you would like to edit your scan right away, select "HP Image Zone" or your favorite image processing software program. Repeat these steps for the "Scan Picture" and "Scan Film" buttons, selecting the settings you prefer for each.

5
Press the "Scan" button which matches the type of item you're scanning. Click "Scan," then "OK." Using the links on the right side of the scan window, resize the image to the desired dimensions, lighten or darken it, and change the sharpness, color and resolution. If necessary, use the links at the bottom to mirror, de-screen or invert the colors of the image. Use the small black boxes around the scan to change the selection area. Click "Select." The scanned image will either save to your hard drive or open in your preferred image editor when you close the scanning window.
