1
Make a basic Hat. Start by making a beginning chain of four, and join to form a circle. You can also do a magic ring circle instead.
Round 1: ch 1, and make 10 sc in the circle. Join with a sl st to first sc.
Round 2: ch 1, 2 sc in each sc around.
Round 3: ch 1, (2 sc in first sc, 1 sc in next sc) around
Round 4: ch 1, (2 sc in first sc, 1 sc in next 2 sc) around
Round 5: ch 1, (2 sc in first sc, 1 sc in next 3 sc) around
Continue this pattern of increasing stitches until your hat is as wide as you need it to be. Then:
Final Rounds: ch 1, sc in each sc around. Continue until hat reaches desired length. Bind off and set aside. -
2
Make the ears. Using the same color that you used for the hat, ch 2.
Row 1: 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook
Row 2: ch 1, 2 sc in sc from row 1
Row 3: ch 1, 2 sc in each sc across
Repeat row 3 until your ears are a good size to match the size of the hat.
Now make a second one, just like the first. Set aside. -

Make the accessories.
Make two pink triangles, slightly smaller than the ears; these will be sewn onto the front of the ears to make the pink ear lining. Follow the instructions above for crocheting the triangle shape.
Make another pink triangle, very small; this will be the nose.
Make two white circles of the same size, using the pattern for the hat as a guideline to make your circles. These will be the whites of the cat's eyes.
Make two smaller circles in black; these will be the pupils of the eyes. -
4
Sew it together. Using your yarn needle and pink yarn, sew the lining of the ears onto the ears. Then using your main color, stitch the ears into position on top of the hat.
Using black yarn, sew the pupils onto the eyes. Then using white yarn, sew the eyes onto the front of the hat.
Using pink yarn, sew the nose under the eyes.
Use white yarn to embroider three running stitches (sew in a straight line) coming out of each side of the nose; these will be the whiskers.
Your hat is ready to wear.

Tips & Warnings
You can substitute plastic google eyes instead of crocheting your own. Just use fabric or craft glue to attach them to your hat.
You can also use felt cut-outs to make the facial features and ears, instead of crocheting them.
If this hat is for an infant, make sure you sew on the facial features and ears tightly so they cannot be pulled off. This might pose a choking hazard.
