How to Use javaw.exe

Javaw.exe is an executable file created by Sun Microsystems. It is designed to operate and run Java. However, there are two different executable files that do this. Java.exe and Javaw.exe. When using Java.exe, a console window will load and allow the user to type prompts and commands. This is not the case with Javaw.exe. When accessing Javaw.exe, no console window will appear or load. The only way you will know if it was even accessed is through the occasional pop-up window that states if there was a problem launching the software or not. Javaw.exe does have its usefulness, though, as it is the file that loads when accessing online content that requires Java to run. Because a console window would be distracting when surfing the web, Javaw.exe is used.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch a Web browser on the computer (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.).

    • 2

Type in a website which uses many different real time videos and effects (examples would be visually dynamic websites such as ESPN.com, and many online gaming sites).

    • 3

Select either a video or a video game to play. Once the game is selected, Javaw.exe will load. You will not see it loading (because no console window will appear), however Javaw.exe will begin to run either the video or the game. Javaw.exe will stay open as long as the video or game is being used. Once you navigate to a different website, Javaw.exe will close.
