Draw Bumblebee of Transformers the Animated Series

Bumblebee is one of the most popular characters in the Transformers universe. This character first appeared in the 1980s "Transformers" animated series. Like all Transformers, Bumblebee can change into a vehicle. However, unlike other Transformers, Bumblebee changes into a very modest Volkswagen Bug. This has changed in the new live action movies, however, the small yellow bug is the most traditional form of Bumblebee. Drawing Bumblebee requires you to make use of basic geometric shapes to create this robotic character.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw Bumblebee's head with a squat oval that is flat on the bottom side. Attach the chest with a slightly round rectangle directly under the chest. Attach the shoulders with two large rectangles on the upper left and right of the chest. Create the upper arms with two cylinders under the shoulders. Add the forearms with two rectangular cube shapes.

    • 2

Draw the hips with an upside down triangle. Attach a small cylinder on the left and right side of the hips. Attach the bottom legs with two rectangular cube shapes. Draw a cross shape across the head oval. This will help you place the eyes, nose and mouth. Add two small horizontal dashes on the vertical line.

    • 3

Draw the eyes of Bumblebee with two small triangles on the horizontal line. Add two curved cones to the upper left and right of the head for horns. Add a small rectangle on the top of Bumblebee's head. Draw the nose with a small rectangle under the eyes.

    • 4

Create the windows on the chest with three small thin rectangles. Place one under the chin and another directly below this. Add the third just above the hips. Draw a shield shape in the center of the chest for the Autobot symbol.

    • 5

Draw a U-shaped line around the inside of Bumblebee's face. Add four diagonal lines around the bottom of the U shape. Add three rectangles to the left and right side of the face. Add a small triangle just above the eyes. Above this add three small horizontal lines. Erase any overlapping pencil lines. Ink the lines you wish to keep with a black pen.

    • 6

Color the illustration using art markers. Use yellow for the chest, forearms, and hips. Add yellow to the top and sides of the head. Color the face light gray. Color the shoulders, rectangles on the chest and legs dark gray. Color the shield shaped Autobot symbol red and the eyes bright blue. Let the ink dry use a while colored pencil on the upper left sides of the head, chest, shoulders and arms. This will show the shining metal.

Tips & Warnings

  • Have a reference photo of Bumblebee handy or use a Bumblee toy as a model while you draw.

  • Be sure to let the marker dry before using the colored pencil on it, or the illustration could tear.
