How to Cure a Toenail Fungus Naturally

When toenail fungus strikes, it may leave your toenails brittle, thickened and yellow and peeling. In some cases, a secondary infection may set in, resulting in the need to surgically remove the toenail. Over-the-counter topical creams and liquids are available for treating toenail fungus, but you may be able to get rid of it on your own, naturally.

Instructions

    • 1

Soak your feet in a mixture of one part of very warm water to one part of white vinegar or apple cider vinegar. Allow your feet to remain in the vinegar soak for 30 minutes, once a day. If the vinegar irritates your skin, you may dilute it with a little more water.

Rub tea tree oil into the affected toenail and work it beneath the nail. Tea tree oil has anti-fungal properties and, when used consistently, for a period of approximately 4 months, you will see a brand new healthy nail growing out.

Rub a black walnut on a toenail with a fungus infection. Just break a small piece of a black walnut in half and rub the raw edge on the toenail, focusing on the cuticle, the creases on the sides of the nail and beneath the front of the toenail. The nice thing about using black walnuts to cure toenail fungus is that you can keep a few in a plastic baggie and apply one to your nail during the day.

Wear shoes with a loose toe area. A tight toe box will decrease circulation to your toenails and will hold in moisture, both triggers for starting a toenail infection.

Tips & Warnings

  • Talk to your doctor about taking an oral medication to cure your toenail fungus if you use natural methods for 6 months with no sign of improvement.
