Repair the Microsoft Visual C++ error message on your computer.

If you recently installed Windows XP, or a component program in the operating system, you may experience Microsoft Visual C Runtime errors. According to Microsoft, "this behavior occurs if a program conflicts with the Mosdmn.exe and Mosearch.exe files." These files are part of "fast searching," a feature used to create a catalog of files in Office XP. If you are experiencing this issue, Microsoft has released steps that must be taken to resolve this issue.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the Windows Start menu and then select the "Run" utility.

    • 2

Type "msconfig.exe" in the box and then select "OK." The System Configuration dialog box opens.

    • 3

Select the "General" tab, if not already selected and then choose "Selective startup.

    • 4

Click on the "Startup" tab, deselect all the check boxes except for "MoSearch," select "Apply" and then click "OK." If your computer is running on Windows Millennium Edition (Me), do not deselect the *StateMgr check box.

    • 5

Restart your PC when prompted to do so.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the issue persists after you reboot your computer, repeat the steps. However, when you click "Selective Startup" under the "General" tab, deselect the "Process System.ini file" and "Process Win.ini file" check boxes.
