How to Clean the DVD Laser on a PS3

Use a laser lens cleaning disc to clean the PS3 lens.

The Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3) is a video gaming system equipped with a Blu-ray player for high-definition media discs. Over time, the laser lens in the PS3 Blu-ray player can become dusty and dirty, which will impede and possibly stop the performance. Cleaning discs especially designed to remove dust and dirt from a laser lens are available at electronics and computer stores. Running a cleaning cycle takes less than five minutes.

Things You'll Need

• Blu-Ray laser lens cleaning disc
• TV

Instructions

1. Turn on the PS3 and the connected TV.

2. Press the eject button on the front of the PS3 to remove any disc inside.

3. Insert the lens cleaning disc into the PS3, then wait a moment for the image to appear on the TV screen.

4. Use the navigation buttons on one of the PS3 controllers to scroll to the cleaning cycle, then press "X" on the controller to start the disc cleaning cycle.

5. Remove the disc when the cleaning cycle is complete, which will be displayed on the TV.

Tips & Warnings

• Do not pour any liquids on or into the PS3 for cleaning.
