A fruit shake or smoothie is a great treat on a hot summer day and it is more nutritious than an ice cream shake. Though this recipe calls for a sweetener, you can easily omit the sugar and rely on the natural sweetness of the fruit to flavor your fruit shake, or substitute honey, agave nectar or a sugar alternative. This recipe makes just enough for one person, so double the ingredients if you are mixing one up for a friend as well. Does this Spark an idea?

  • 1 cup fruit
  • Blender
  • 1 cup ice cubes
  • 3 tablespoons simple syrup

Instructions

      Chop 1 cup of fruit and place it in the blender. Use any type of fruit, including bananas, strawberries, blueberries, pineapple, mango and watermelon. Use your imagination to create new taste combinations.

      Add about 1 cup of ice cubes to the blender. The ice cubes thicken and chill the fruit shake.

      Pour 3 tablespoons of simple syrup into the blender to add sweetness. Simple syrup is a mixture of equal parts sugar and water, boiled together to form a syrup.

      Blend everything together until the ice is crushed and the shake is smooth.

      Pour the fruit shake into a glass and enjoy.
