How to Decorate a Hall for a Wedding in the Fall Theme
Decorating a reception hall for a fall wedding can seem like an overwhelming task, but if you approach the process one step at a time and stay organized, you can turn a plain reception hall into a lush autumnal setting. If you start planning the reception hall decor several months in advance of your wedding, you'll have plenty of time to plan every detail and make sure that it will be easy to put everything in place on the big day.

1
Decide on a theme. Before you consider how to decorate your reception hall, you must have a theme in mind. Sticking to a theme will help you stay on track when deciding on large and small decor choices. Some themes you can choose for a fall wedding include fall leaves, autumn harvest, fall flowers or autumn woodland.

2
Choose linens. Some reception halls might provide plain white linens for guest tables and banquet tables, but that doesn't mean you can't dress them up with something different. Add a whimsical touch with table runners in autumn-inspired prints or add a pop of color with fall foliage-hued dinner napkins.

3
Arrange centerpieces. Centerpieces are the focal point at reception hall tables and they can set the mood for the rest of the decor. If you want to keep your reception hall decor modern and minimalist, arrange fall flowers in a collection of single-bud vases, or arrange fall-hued pillar candles of varying heights at the center of each table. If you're aiming for a more romantic reception, choose centerpieces with delicate details, such as millinery birds and paper flowers.
-
4
Decorate the chairs. You can leave chairs uncovered, but adding chair covers will help tie together the room decor. If chair covers aren't in your wedding budget, consider tying oversized fall-colored fabric bows around the chair backs.
-
5
Set aside tables for escort cards and the guest book. Position the tables near the entrance, where guests can plainly see where to collect their seat escort cards and sign the guest book.
-
6
Add mood lighting. If the reception hall features bright overhead lighting, run sets of white strand lights across the ceiling to provide softer lighting. You can also suspend paper globe lanterns from the ceiling to add depth and texture to your lighting design. Candles incorporated into your table designs will cast a soft glow over the tables.

7
Decorate with seasonal flowers. Arrange potted mums, which are cheap and readily available throughout the fall months, in the reception hall's unadorned crevices and corners. Suspend pomanders (made by covering floral foam spheres with cut mums) from the ceiling to add color and texture to the overhead decor.
-
8
Embellish the food and cake tables with accents that reflect your wedding theme. For example, if you're planning a fall flowers wedding theme, scatter flower petals that correspond with your wedding colors over the food and cake tables. For a woodland theme, display desserts and small dishes on woodsy tree branch and cross-cut wood plaque cake stands. For harvest, bountiful cornucopia accents work well.
