How to Disable AutoComplete From a Search Bar
Autocomplete is a feature in Web browsers, such as Internet Explorer and Firefox that collects the information an Internet user types, such as her password, username, Web address history and data form entries and then later provides suggestions based on the information collected. If this feature is enabled in your Web browser, you may need to disable it to ensure that your privacy. You must modify your Web browser's settings to disable the autocomplete feature.

Open IE, click "Tools" and then choose "Internet Options." The Internet Options dialog box will then open.

Click on the "Content" tab, select the "Settings" button under the "AutoComplete" section, deselect all the boxes under the "Use AutoComplete for" section and then click "OK." If you would like to clear your current autocomplete history, click on the "Delete AutoComplete history" before clicking "OK."

Close the Internet Options dialog box by selecting "OK." You have successfully disabled the autocomplete feature.

Open Firefox, select "Tools" and then choose "Options."

Select the "Privacy" tab, choose "Use custom setting for history" from the "Firefox will" drop-down list under the "History" section and then deselect the "Remember search and form history" box.

Close the Options dialog box by clicking "OK." You have successfully disabled the autocomplete feature in Firefox 3.6.
