How to Save a Music CD to a Hard Drive
Sometimes storing and managing several CDs can be a bit inconvenient. Instead, users can opt to save their music to computers for better organization and mobility. Saving a music CD to a hard drive is commonly referred to as CD "ripping." The ripping action allows you to copy and transfer any music saved to the disc for storage and playback on your hard drive. Overall, saving only takes a couple of minutes and anyone can do it.

Insert the music CD of your choice into your computer's CD-ROM drive.

Close the drive door and allow the computer to run the music CD. Once the music CD is detected, an "AutoPlay" dialog window will appear on the screen.

Select the "Rip Music from CD" option in the "AutoPlay" action menu. This action will redirect you to your computer's digital media application and the "Options" menu will open automatically.

Click the radio button for the digital media player application's recommended settings when the "Options" window pops up.

Select the "MP3" format in the "Rip Settings" drop-down bar to ensure that all of the songs will be formatted correctly for playback.

Click "Apply" to finalize your option settings and "OK" to proceed to the saving process. The media player application will begin ripping the songs from the music CD automatically.

Tips & Warnings
Depending on the media player application you're using, the AutoPlay dialog window may send you directly to the ripping process.
In most cases, if the music is being ripped from a CD-R or RW, the song titles may not be available once the songs have been saved to the hard drive. As a result, you will need to enter the title of each song manually.
