How to Set Simple Patterns on an Alesis Drum Machine

The Alesis SR-16 is a programmed drum machine that features a wide selection of 233 drum sounds and allows users to set their drum patterns. There are 50 preset patterns already installed in the machine, but you can create your own simple variation by using the "Compose" mode. Users can tap the drum feature buttons on the machine to emulate a real drum kit, and the "Perform" mode can be used to play the beats live while tapping on the buttons.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on your Alesis drum machine and then press the "Pattern/Song" button. Use the selection knob to choose a built-in user pattern.

    • 2

Press the "Perform/Compose" button to enter Compose mode and then press the "Play" button. As you record, the tempo and beat number will flash on the display screen.

    • 3

Record your pattern with a simple drumbeat, such as pressing the "Snare" button and then the "Tom 1," "Tom 2" or "Tom 3" button repeatedly.
