How to Apply Artistic Effects in Photoshop
Adobe Photoshop is a professional graphics and photo editing software considered the industry standard for graphic designers and photographers. Users can alter, enhance and manipulate photos for print, web, publication, commercial and fine arts projects. Artistic filters include neon glow, plastic wrap and rough pastels, to name a few, and can be applied to photos and typography to create natural and traditional media effects.

Launch Adobe Photoshop by selecting the program the applications menu of your desktop or laptop computer.

Click "File" and then "Open" from the top menu in Photoshop. Browse to the project or photo you wish to apply artistic effects to and click the "Open" button.

Click "Filter" from the top menu. Select "Artistic" from the list of filters. If the "Artistic" filter is grayed out or disabled, make sure you have selected a layer to work on from the "Layers" palette. Click "Window" from the top menu and click "Layers" to open the palette.

Select the type of artistic filter you wish to apply to the photo, image or project. Artistic filters include: colored pencil, cutout, dry brush, film grain, fresco, neon glow, paint daubs, palette knife, plastic wrap, poster edges, rough pastels, smudge stick, sponge, underpainting and watercolor. Select the desired settings of the filter and click "OK" to apply. You can apply multiple artistic filters to the same photo or project.
