How to Make a Dollhouse Out of Paper
Paper doll houses can be made in an afternoon or on a rainy Saturday when children need some entertainment. Websites catering to doll house enthusiasts carry plans for many different styles of doll houses. There are models of the Taj Mahal, the White House, Frank Lloyd Wright's house and even Bill Gates' home. Other "house" plans include the Sydney Opera House and Big Ben. To create one of these houses, or simply a Victorian-style dream house, plan a shopping excursion to the craft store for some good art supplies. If you like, go to the library and check out a book or two about the home's owner and history. Find photo images online about what the real house looks like so you can make your project appear more authentic, then come home and begin on your doll house project.

- Copy paper
- Tracing paper
- Card stock or poster board
- Colored pencils
- Colored markers
- Computer
- Printer
- House plans
- Tape
- Scissors
- Tacky or hot glue

Select the house plan you would like to build. Print the house plan with a computer printer and copy paper. Be sure to get all of the pages of the plan.

Use tracing paper to go over the outline on the copy paper. Use a fine-tip marker or dark art pencil for this job. Light pencil outlines are difficult to see when transferring plans to card stock.

Transfer the tracing paper outline to the card stock. Tape the corners of the tracing paper to the card stock or poster board.

Cut out the outline of each part of the doll house with a sharp pair of scissors. Use a fine-tip marker to fill in the details of the house and the score lines. Be sure to save any directions written on the original plans.

Color and fill in the details of each piece of the doll house as desired. Follow any written directions to score and fold the doll house into the proper shape

Use tacky glue or hot glue to glue the tabs in place. Regular "school" glue is often not strong enough to hold heavy card stock into place. Once each piece has dried completely, glue all the pieces into place.

Use a quality brand of colored pencils or markers because "school" quality art supplies bleed into the paper.
