How to Care for a Cricket Ball
From its humble beginnings in 16th century England, cricket has gone on to become the world's second most popular team sport. With elements similar to baseball, cricket utilizes a ball and wooden bat for gameplay. Regulation cricket balls are made by tightly wrapping a small cork ball with string and encasing it in leather. In regulation cricket games, the cricket ball is used for just a single inning. For the casual cricket player, this can be too expensive to be practical. Taking good care of your cricket ball will help extend its life so that it can be used in multiple cricket games.

Clean excess dirt from the surface of your cricket ball by wiping the ball with a soft, dry towel after each use.

Remove caked-on dirt or mud from your cricket ball by wiping it with a soft towel that has been dampened in a solution of mild soap and water. Wring the excess water from the towel before wiping the surface of your cricket ball.

Polish your cricket ball with a water-resistant leather conditioner if the surface of your cricket ball feels rough. For best results, apply the leather conditioner to your cricket ball according to package directions. Avoid applying leather conditioner to the stitching of your cricket ball when polishing it.

Dry your cricket ball with a soft towel after cleaning or polishing it, or if your cricket ball comes into contact with excessive moisture. Make sure that the surface of your cricket ball is completely dry before storing it away.

Store your cricket balls in a non-humid, temperature-controlled room of your home between uses.

Some less expensive cricket balls may be made of synthetic leather. In this case, it is unnecessary to polish the surface of the cricket ball as described in Step 3.
Do not use harsh chemical cleaning products to clean your cricket balls as they can damage the stitching and leather casing.
Take proper safety precautions when playing cricket. Propelled at high speeds, the extremely hard cricket ball can be dangerous.
