How to Increase the Resolution of a Thumbnail Picture in Adobe Photoshop 3 thumbnail
Increase thumbnail resolution for any standard thumbnail image using Adobe Photoshop CS3.

When working with digital photos, you may occasionally encounter a thumbnail, or a tiny version of a photo used for previewing purposes, that needs to be altered to a higher resolution. By raising the resolution, you increase the amount of detail in your photograph, which can often come in handy for small thumbnails. You can accomplish this effect with any standard thumbnail image using Adobe Photoshop CS3.

Instructions

    • 1

Open your thumbnail image in Adobe Photoshop CS3. You can do this by simply dragging the image onto the Photoshop icon, or by selecting "Open" from the "File" menu and choosing your image.

    • 2

Select "Image" from the menu bar and choose "Image Size" from the drop down menu.

    • 3

Click your mouse inside the "Resolution" box and change the resolution to a higher number to suit your needs. Note that the higher the resolution you choose, the more pixelated your image will become.

    • 4

Click "OK." Your image will adjust to your selected resolution. If you chose a resolution requiring a higher image size, then the size of your image will increase automatically.

Tips & Warnings

  • Raising the resolution of a small image typically results in heavy pixelation, or a blurry, grainy effect. You can improve the quality of the photo by selecting either "Sharpen" or "Unsharp Mask" from the Photoshop Filter Gallery and adjusting the settings until the image becomes sharper.
