Libertarians believe that government should exist only to protect people from threats and violence, allowing them to live as they see fit. Step1
Reduce the size of government.
Step2
End income taxes and replace them with user fees.
Step3
Let people buy and sell goods and services without governmental interference.
Step4
Repeal minimum wage laws.
Step5
Repeal current drug laws.
Step6
Eliminate regulations on sex for consenting adults.
Step7
Prohibit governmental control over speech on the Internet.
Step8
Allow border crossings for peaceful people.

Tips & Warnings

  • Opposing political parties may actually agree on certain principles and issues.
  • Be aware that there is some disagreement within most political parties on the abortion issue.
  • Watch or record political TV programs on CSPAN, MSNBC and CNN.
  • Read the political sections of "The New York Times," "The Washington Post," or other national newspapers. Most are online.
  • Write or fax your congressperson about issues that concern you.
  • Voters should familiarize themselves with several party platforms before voting or registering with a party.

on 12/9/2005 Libertarians believe that you have the right to live your life as you wish, without the government interfering -- as long as you don't violate the rights of others.

BTW, most of us are in our 40's or older, not Internet nerd kids as the previous post inferred. Old enough to remember a time when the government didn't try to control every aspect of the individuals life, as it does today.

on 12/9/2005 The Libertarian Party is viewed by many as a one-issue party: namely, the repeal of current drug laws. Sometimes it is viewed as a two-issue party, with gun rights as a secondary issue. For the LP to grow and flourish, it will need to break free from this general perception.

on 11/22/2005 The reason the Libertarian Party receives so few votes come election time is because most Libertarians are not old enough to vote yet. Most of them are internet nerds who grow up to be either Republicans or welfare recipients (sometimes both).
