Things You'll Need

  • Stained shirt
  • Large, shallow bowl
  • Kettle
  • Soaking solution: ¼ cup laundry detergent mixed with 1 gallon water
  • Deep bowl or bucket
  • Stain pre-treatment (such as Shout! or Spray and Wash)
  • Color-safe bleach

Instructions

      Lay the stained shirt in a shallow bowl and bring a kettle of water to a boil.

      Pour the boiling water directly over the stain.

    • 3

      Rinse the shirt in cool water and transfer to a deep bowl filled with one gallon of soaking solution.

      Soak the shirt for one hour in the solution.

    • 5

      Remove the stained shirt and apply a stain pretreatment solution, according to the manufacturer's instructions, directly onto the stain.

      Wash the shirt with color-safe bleach added to your washing machine, according to package instructions.

    • 7

      Lay the shirt in the sun to air dry and let the sun bleach out any remaining tomato stains.
