Get Better Fuel Economy in a Hummer H3

The Humvee was invented for use by the military as an off-road light tactical vehicle to get through all kinds of conditions. The Hummer is a scaled down consumer version of the military Humvee. The H1 was the first version, and then came the H2 and the H3. Each version became smaller, more manageable and more adapted to civilian needs. The H3 still resembles the larger Hummer versions; and though it is smaller, it can still take a good amount of gas.

Instructions

    • 1

Keep your Hummer as empty as possible. Even though there may be a lot of room, the more cargo you carry, the more gas it consumes; and although the vehicle has a lot of storage capacity, it shouldn't be used as such.

Perform routine maintenance on your Hummer to keep it running as it should. If your tires are even a little flat, that can make it harder to move your Hummer. Change your oil every three months or 3,000 miles. Oil viscosity is always increasing and making it harder on your engine. Changing your air filter regularly will also improve your mileage. How often you change your filter depends on what kind of environment you live. In a city environment, you may be able to go 20,000 miles and in the dusty country maybe only a few months. Examine the filter every month and change it before it is fully clogged with dirt.

Drive the speed limit, remembering that driving more than 35 miles an hour is the point where you start to lose fuel efficiency. When driving city streets, take routes with the least amount of stops and traffic. Even a longer route may provide better mileage if there are no stops or less congestion. Don't overuse your brakes and avoid speeding up just to slow down. This will not only improve mileage but will improve brake life on your vehicle.
