The Dell GX270 was a computer made by Dell several years ago and was a small form factor computer case to use up less space. Installing a hard drive on most computers is relatively simple but Dell cases are often even easier to work with then other computer cases. If you want to install a new hard drive in your GX 270 you don't need to get another hard drive from Dell, you can buy one anywhere, just make sure that it matches your old hard drive type which is either SATA or IDE.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the computer case. First turn off the computer and disconnect anything plugged into the back of the computer including the power cables. Push the buttons on the top and bottom of the case. Pull the case apart and lift up.

    • 2

Disconnect the cables from the back of the hard drive. The drive is going to be inside the top of the case. There should be a power and data cable. Pull the cables straight out but pay attention to exactly how they are plugged in.

    • 3

Pull the tabs on either side of the hard drive and slide the drive up and out. If you are replacing the drive with a non-dell drive you will then have to unscrew the rail system on the side of the hard drive.

    • 4

Screw the rails on the new hard drive on the side. Slide the hard drive back in the enclosure. Connect the data and power cables. Close the computer case and plug everything back into the case that was previously connected.
