Instructions for Fingerless Gloves
Fingerless gloves can keep your hands warm without restricting your dexterity, and they can also be a wonderful fashion accessory to add to your wardrobe. Making a pair of fingerless gloves is a project that even a novice sewer can handle.
Instructions
-
-
1
Measure the distance between your elbow and your knuckles. This will be the length of your gloves.
-
2
Measure the distance around your wrist. This will be the diameter of your glove.
-
-
3
Cut out two rectangular strips of stretch velvet using the measurements that you have taken in steps 1 and 2.
-
4
Fold one strip of velvet in half along the length. The soft side of the fabric should be facing inwards, leaving the plain woven side facing out.
-
5
Sew 2 inches down the length of the glove starting from where the corners of the velvet meet. This gives you an open end that your fingers will fit through.
-
6
Measure ¾ inch down the the length of the glove from the spot where you stopped sewing. This area will be the hole for your thumb, and will be left open.
-
7
Sew the remaining length of the glove together. You should now have a tube with an open space for your thumb.
-
8
Repeat steps 4 through 7 using the other piece of velvet.
-
9
Turn down the raw edges and hem them by folding the the raw edge down flat against the inside of the fabric and stitching it down. This will leave you with a finished edge that does not fray.
-
10
Turn your gloves right-side out. They are now ready to wear.

Tips & Warnings
You can trim the edges of your gloves with ribbon for a more finished look.
Add a little lace to the hand opening of the glove for a fun, flirty look.
The more stretch your velvet has, the better your fit will be. To get a little more stretch out of your velvet, cut it along the bias (diagonally across the length of the fabric).
