There can be few things more frightening on the road than an encounter with an abusive or irate driver. The term "road rage," which has become common vernacular, refers to any act of aggression by a driver directed toward other motorists. Road rage can range from agitation, to physical assault to even murder. According the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, an average of 1,500 men, women and children are seriously injured or killed each year in the United States as a result of dangerous drivers. If you have an encounter with a motorist who is driving dangerously in California, the best way to deal with it is to report the driver.

      Dial 911 from a cell phone to be routed to the California Highway Patrol while traveling on California's highways or freeway system. Dial 911 on a local street to be routed to the local police department. Provide the license plate number, the year, make and model of the car to the dispatcher. Provide your location and time of incident, and describe the incident and the driver's behavior.

      Log on to your computer and start your Internet browser.
      Report the incident for free at www.roadragers.com/
      Describe the alleged offense in detail.
      Describe the vehicle, make, model, year and color.
      Report the license plate number and state.
      Note the street, cross street or city and state of the offense and enter that information.
      Enter the date and time the incident occurred.
      Create a private handle which will be used to identify you.
      Enter your email address.
      Hit "Submit" to transmit your information.
      Agree to the disclaimer.

      Report the incident for free at www.roadavenge.com.
      Click "Create Report."
      Type in the address of the incident.
      Describe detail with required plate number.
      Describe type of vehicle, truck or motorcycle's year, make, model and other identifiable features.
      Describe gender and approximate age of offending driver.
      Describe the incident by checking off appropriate boxes next to the specific complaint.
      Title the incident for reference.
      Describe the incident in your own words
      Sign and submit, or use an anonymous "handle" on your report.
