How to Install a Pendant Lamp
Pendant lamps can be used in any room in your home. A majority of pendant lamps hang in dining rooms, but you will also find them in entryways, on porches and even in bathrooms. Gone are the days of the simple brass five-arm candelabras; say hello to the antique pewter three light and the brush nickel and marble single-light pendants. The only thing harder than installing a pendant lamp is choosing which pendant lamp to install. Does this Spark an idea?

Turn off the power to the light circuit you are installing your pendant light on by turning off the breaker in the main electrical panel.

Assemble your pendant light according to the instructions provided by the manufacturer.

Attach the fixture crossbar to the electrical light box in the ceiling. The fixture crossbar is furnished with your pedant lamp and attaches with two screws to the electrical box.

Wire the pendant light to the power supply. Pendant lights are wired with lamp cord. The smooth wire is hot and the ribbed wire is neutral. Connect the smooth wire from the pendant lamp to the black (hot) wire from the electrical light box in the ceiling by twisting them together with an orange wire nut. Connect the ribbed wire from the pendant lamp to the white (neutral) wire in the electrical box by twisting an orange wire nut on them as well. Push all wires into the electrical box.

Attach the pendant lamp to the ceiling following the manufacturer's instructions.

Turn the power on to the light circuit you installed the pendant lamp on by turning on the breaker in the main electrical box.

Tips & Warnings
Pendant lamps can attach to the ceiling, depending on the style and the manufacturer. Follow the instructions included with your pendant lamp to insure proper installation.
Turn the electricity off to the area that you are working in to avoid electrical shock.
