How to Build Hogwarts on The Sims 2 Base Game
There are two ways to build Hogwarts in The Sims 2. There is the time-intensive, quite difficult way of building the entire thing from scratch, which takes a lot of time but gives greater control over the end product. There is also the super-easy way of just downloading the pieces needed and putting it all together, but that means relying on the work of the Sims 2 community instead of creating it from scratch. Using any mixture of the two different methods, a player can put together the Hogwarts desired in a reasonable amount of time.

The Easy Way: Downloading

Create an account with The Sims 2 website, log in, and go to the Exchange section of the site.

Go to the "Lot" section and search for Hogwarts. Several buildings offer different user's interpretations of Hogwarts. Choose a Hogwarts and download it.

Go to the "Sims" section of the site and search for Hogwarts. There are several Hogwarts Sims to choose from--pick one set, or several, and download them. Some of the Hogwarts buildings in the "Lots" section also come with Sims.

Place the downloaded pieces in the Sims 2 neighborhood, and play!
The Hard Way: Building

Figure out what Hogwarts should look like. Decide whether Hogwarts should be designed after the movie version or a personal interpretation of the descriptions in the book.

Research and pull up or sketch out pictures of Hogwarts and the characters. It is essential to have a firm idea of what the building and the characters should look like before starting. If going with the movie version of Hogwarts, print out pictures of the characters and building to have them on hand. If going with a personal version, sketch out a general idea of what they should look like.

Create the characters first. Go into the create a family screen and spend some time putting together the Harry Potter characters. The Sims 2 only has room for 8 characters in a family, one of which has to be an adult. Even if the characters are being created from scratch, outfits can be downloaded from the Sims 2 website. Creating outfits from scratch is possible but it is a very time intensive procedure.

Move the characters into an empty lot big enough to build Hogwarts. If Hogwarts is created before the characters move into it, they won't be able to afford it without some juggling.

Use cheat codes to create enough money to build Hogwarts. Press Ctrl + Shift + C to bring up the cheat window. Then type in "motherlode" and hit enter to add 50,000 simoleans. Repeat as many times as necessary to acquire the funds to build and furnish Hogwarts.

Create an account with The Sims 2 website, log in, and go to the Exchange to download wallpapers, carpets and furniture that go with the Hogwarts theme.

Start building! Use pictures printed or drawn and the downloaded content to create Hogwarts.
