How to Program Touch Screen Monitors

Touch screen monitors are configured through software

Touchscreen monitors allow users to perform certain functions by simply pressing the screen. You can program touchscreen monitors once the software for the monitors has been installed on the computer. The software is necessary for the computer to interpret what to do when a user touches the screen. Installing the software for your touchscreen monitor is done once the monitor has been connected to the computer.

Instructions

1. Disconnect your existing monitor from the computer. Unscrew the monitor cable from the video input port on the back of the computer.

2. Plug the monitor into the video input port on the computer. This can be an onboard video input or the video input on a graphics card.

3. Plug the monitor into a power strip or wall outlet.

4. Turn on the monitor by pressing the power button, and then turn on your computer.

5. Wait for the operating system to load. Operating systems such as Windows will recognize the new monitor and install the software drivers that are needed.

6. Insert the installation CD into the drive on the computer.

7. Wait for the operating system to recognize the CD and to launch the Windows Installer. Click the "Next" button to continue.

8. Follow the instructions that are displayed on each screen, and press the "Next" button to continue. Click the "Finish" button to complete the installation.

9. Restart the computer if you are prompted to do so.

10. Touch the screen to make sure that it is functioning correctly. Tap twice on an icon, as if you were clicking with a mouse, and see if the program opens correctly.

11. Double-click the icon for the monitor software on the desktop, and look for a "Configuration" option under one of the drop-down menu items. Running the configuration will program the monitor to the settings that you choose.

Tips & Warnings

• Go the manufacturer's website to check whether software updates are available.

• If you do not install the CD that came with the monitor, you will not be able to correctly configure the monitor.
