Parallel Parking Directions
Parallel parking can be a challenge for even experienced drivers, and it is often one of the most difficult things for new drivers to master. Since parallel parking is likely to be a part of a driver's exam, it is important for anyone seeking a license to practice parallel parking as much as possible. It can be difficult to master all the maneuvers needed to fit a car into a restricted space; but the more practice drivers get, the better they will be--both on the exam course and on the public streets.

1
Locate a large parking space with an easy approach. When learning to parallel park it is a good idea to start with an easy spot, then slowly work your way up to smaller and smaller parking spaces. Look for an empty space on the near end of a corner you're approaching--this will give you maximum room to maneuver in reverse without worrying about cars behind you.
-
2
Look in your rearview mirror as you approach the spot. Be sure there are no cars riding closely behind you--if there are, allow them to pass before you proceed.

-
3
Put your turn signal on so the cars around you will know you are planning to park. Then pull up alongside the car in front of you. You should be right next to that car, with your back bumper aligned with the other car's back bumper.
-
4
Place your foot on the brake and shift your car into reverse. Check your rear view mirror to make sure there are no cars behind you, then slowly let your foot off the brake.
-
5
Move the steering wheel hard to the right so the back wheels of the car move sharply toward the curb. If there are no cars behind you and you have more room to maneuver you can turn the wheels more gradually to the right.
-
6
Continue backing your car while moving the steering wheel to align it. Check the rearview mirror to make sure you are not too close to the car behind. If necessary, put your car in drive and move it forward to straighten it out.
