How to Make Clay Marbles

Make your own set of marbles to collect, display or play with. If you have a game that has missing marbles, homemade marbles could help to keep it playable. Kids can make the marbles as well, as the process is a simple one and does not require any special tools. Polymer clay comes in many colors and can be baked in an oven, rather than a kiln, making it the best material for homemade marbles.

Things You'll Need:

  • Wax Paper
  • Oven
  • Polymer Clay In Multiple Colors
  • Baking Sheet
  • Aluminum Foil
  • Masking Tape

Preheat your oven according to the label on your polymer-clay package.

Cut a sheet of wax paper to cover your work space, and tape it in place with masking tape.

Roll two snake shapes with different colors of polymer clay. You can use more colors if you like; just roll an extra snake shape for each color.

Spiral the snake shapes around each other, and roll the entire spiraled roll into a snake again to smooth the colors into each other.

Break the snake apart into marble-sized pieces, and roll them into balls with your palms. Notice that the colors create a marbled effect.

Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and place the marbles on the baking sheet.

Bake the marbles according to the directions on the polymer clay package. Allow them to cool before playing with them.

Tip

Make a whole set of matching marbles, or experiment with several different colors of clay.

Warnings:

  • Do not allow children to operate the oven. An adult should place the marbles into the oven and remove them when they are done baking.
