How to Build a Website for a Nonprofit Church thumbnail
Most churchs now have their own websites.

To stay keep up with the times, your church needs to have a website. It's not hard to build a website for a nonprofit church. It can even be done with very little cost. A good website will offer basic information about your church, such as its location, mission statement, a phone number and a map. You can also include a special-events calendar for church members.

Have a meeting with the board in charge of your church to decide what kind of information you will offer on your website. Brainstorm for ideas and visit other church websites to research different ways that church websites are laid out. Make a list of all information that the committee would like to be included on the website.

Use a digital camera to take pictures of the church. You will want to have a photo of the front of the church on the website so that visitors will know what to look for when they are driving to the church for the first time. You may also wish to take a few photos of the interior of your church to place on the site, as well as a photo of your church's leader.

Obtain hosting services for your website. Some services offer free hosting (see Resources). In making these arrangements, make sure that you will not have any unwanted ads on your church website. Some free hosting services also offer free domain names. If your hosting service does not, simply obtain a domain name online. This can be done for under $10.

Ask the congregation if anyone in the church has website design skills that he would like to donate. Chances are that someone in your church can design your website for free. Don't forget to ask around in the youth group. Many young people have acquired this skill simply by growing up in the Internet age.

Have your designer place the photos of your church on the website, along with all the other information that the committee decided. Basic information should be listed, such as meeting times, contact information, directions to the church, its mission statement and a welcome message.

Get the word out about your church website by placing the Web address at the bottom of the Sunday bulletin and on all church business cards.
