How to Make Hair Bows With Tails

Make a hair bow with tails at home using a barrette and ribbon. The tails are the ribbons that hang from the barrette and bow. Use any color combination you want when making your bow. You can make the hair bow match an outfit, event or holiday. For example, use red and green ribbons for a Christmas hair bow. The hair bow will last a few months if cared for properly. Buy the supplies at craft or sewing stores. Soft, satin ribbon comes in various widths and colors.

Things You'll Need

• Soft ribbon
• Ruler
• Scissors
• Hot glue gun
• Metal or plastic barrette

Instructions

1. Measure and cut six 4-foot pieces of ribbon. Choose the same color, complementary or contrasting colors.

2. Stack the strands of ribbon together on a flat surface. They ends need to be even.

3. Tie one bow with all the strands. Pull it tightly.

4. Plug in the hot glue gun. Let it warm up.

5. Squeeze the trigger on the gun to put a large dot of glue on the back off the bow's knot.

6. Press the bow onto the barrette. Hold for 8 to 10 seconds to allow the glue time to set up.

7. The strands from the bow make the tails for the hair bow.

Tips & Warnings

• Cut the ribbon strips longer if you want longer tails.

• Handle the hot glue gun with care. The glue and nozzle can burn if touched.
