How to Design a Pearl Ring
Designing a pearl ring just takes a little imagination and the ability to sketch what you want. Custom jewelers, such as the craftsmen at James Avery, can take your design and turn it into an actual ring. In designing your ring, all you need to take into consideration is how many pearls you want, what sizes, their arrangements and if you would like to add additional stones or scroll-work in the metal setting for decoration.

1
Decide on how many pearls and what sizes you wish to use. In general, use smaller pearls if you intend to use more than one. The most common pearl ring uses one large pearl. However, you could plan for two medium sized pearls in a line, typically to sit one on top of the other, oriented in the direction of your finger, rather than across the knuckles. Or, you could arrange three small pearls in a triangle, or four small pearls in a diamond shape. Sketch your pearl choice.

Decide if you wish to incorporate additional gemstones in your ring design. Additional, small stones can be set surrounding the pearl. A pair may be used, set on either side of the pearl. You can create a swirl of gemstones underneath the pearl on a partially curved line made into the setting. If using more than one pearl, you might create an S of gemstones weaving between two pearls, or set tiny gemstones in the gaps between pearls set in triangle or diamond formations.

Sketch how you want the metal setting beneath the pearl to look. A pearl setting can be a simple band or you can add scrolling into the metal. Consider leaf designs or simple swirls. The band can be solid or lacy. Sketch or describe what you want to the jeweler. Look over other bands for ideas, then have your ring made.
