How to Make a Sonic Doll

How to Make a Sonic Doll thumbnail
Pull out your sewing basket and use it to make a Sonic doll.

If you have a Sonic the Hedgehog fan in your household, making your own Sonic doll isn't as hard as it may seem. If you have basic cutting and sewing (or even gluing) skills, you can make your own Sonic doll using craft felt or fleece. Sew a Sonic doll in an afternoon; but beware, you may be asked to create the whole hedgehog gang next.

Instructions

    • 1

Create a pattern. Find a picture of Sonic the Hedgehog that you can trace. It could be a computer image, the cover of a video game, or a magazine picture. Trace around the main details of the image using a pencil and plain white paper. Leave out the minor details, but get the main points such as Sonic's outline, his eyes, face, and stomach, his sneakers and his gloves. You may want to draw his arms a little larger than they normally are, because you will have to sew this as a doll.

    • 2

Cut out your pattern and use straight pins to attach it to a doubled piece of blue felt or fleece fabric. Cut out the basic Sonic outline using this fabric. Set one sheet aside; this will be the back of your doll. Now cut out the smaller pieces of your pattern and pin those to appropriate shades of felt or fleece: white for his eyes and gloves; peach for his face, tummy, and arms; red for his sneakers. Cut out all of the pieces.

    • 3

Sew the smaller pieces of fabric onto the base blue piece of fabric in the appropriate places. Use a needle and thread for hand sewing, or a machine if you have the equipment and skills. If you don't know how to sew, you can use fabric glue for all of the sewing in this project.

    • 4

Position the front piece of your doll on top of the back piece, and sew around 3/4 of the outside edges to make a seam. Stuff the doll with polyester fiberfill stuffing, then sew the remaining 1/4 of the seam.

    • 5

Use a fabric marker or paint to add the detail work to Sonic's appearance, such as the pupils of his eyes or the laces on his sneakers. When that is completely dry, your Sonic doll is ready to play.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use this same basic idea to create a variety of video game character dolls, from Kirby to Mr. Game and Watch.
