Replacing the side mirror on a GMC Denali yourself can save you money over a repair shop.

Replacing the side mirror on the 2002 GMC Denali does not require removing the entire interior door panel like on other models. If the mirror has been damaged in an accident or if the mirror's internal motor has stopped working, you can replace the mirror yourself without employing the labor of a repair station or body shop. In addition, the power mirror on the Denali can be purchased in the aftermarket industry (direct-fit) for a lot less money than the GMC dealership will charge you.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the ignition key to the on position and power the window to the down position. Turn the ignition key back to the off position and remove the key from the ignition.

    • 2

Gently pry the upper corner trim sail covering the interior side of the door panel opposite the side mirror with a plastic trim tool to remove it.

    • 3

Gently pull the foam insulator exposed from under the trim sail by hand.

    • 4

Lift the side mirror wire harness out of the access hole until the plug connection is visible.

    • 5

Disconnect the junction between the wire harness plug and the side mirror plug by disengaging the retaining lock and then pulling it apart.

    • 6

Use the 10 millimeter socket wrench to remove the three mirror stud retaining nuts. Be sure to support the mirror through the open window before removing the last retaining nut. Be careful not to drop the nuts from the socket wrench inside the door frame cavity as you will need these to replace the mirror.

    • 7

Separate the side mirror from the exterior door panel of the Denali, being careful not to drop it against the door. You'll need to feed the mirror wire and plug through the access hole.

    • 8

Install the new mirror by reversing the removal procedure.
