How to Find Out About Demerit Points
In the United States, state-level Department of Transportation and Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) offices manage driver licensing. To help maintain driver safety, each state has a point system to act as a deterrent against driver negligence. Drivers that commit driving violations can receive demerit points, also known as driver's license points, against a driving record. After accumulating of a certain number of points, a driver begins to lose driving privileges and can eventually lose his license. Obtaining general information about the points system for your state or about your specific points situation requires contacting your state's DMV or state police.
