How to Fix Compatibility Problems in Vista
You may have recently purchased a computer that has the Windows Vista operating system already installed on it, or you might have upgraded an older computer to Windows Vista. As with other operating systems, you have the ability to transfer programs from older operating systems to Windows Vista. These older programs might have compatibility issues with Vista that can be easily resolved by changing the settings for that program.
Instructions

1
Right-click on the program icon or folder that you are having problems with, and a drop-down menu will appear.
-
2
Select "Properties" at the very bottom of the drop-down menu. A window will open.
-
-
3
Choose the "Compatibility" tab at the top of the open window.
-
4
Click on the box found next to "Run the program in compatibility mode for" to enable this option.
-
5
Click the drop-down menu directly beneath the box mentioned in the previous step. Several options will appear.
-
6
Choose an older version of Windows, such as Windows XP Service Pack 2, inside the drop-down menu.
-
7
Leave all the "Settings" in the middle of the window as they are.
-
8
Click "Run this program as an administrator" if you wish to do so. Otherwise, you can skip to the next step.
-
9
Select the "Apply" and "OK" buttons (in that order) at the bottom of the window. The window will close and the settings will be saved.
-
10
Double-click the program icon to open the program. If you continue to experience problems, repeat the process choosing a different version of Windows in Step 6 until the compatibility problems have been resolved.
