How to Convert Quicktime Files to Play on Windows Media Player

Quicktime videos, such as MOV files, will play in Apple media software programs such as Quicktime and iTunes. These types of files are not compatible with the Windows Media Player software, however, and thus the files will not open in Windows Media Player. In order to view these files using Windows Media Player, you will convert the Quicktime video to a different format. Quicktime videos can be converted to Windows Media Player files online for free.

Media Converter

1. Go to the online converter website named Media Converter.

2. Click "upload a file" that is on the left part of the page. A browse button will show up on that page.

3. Click "Browse." A window will open.

4. Locate and then select the Quicktime video inside the window that you wish to convert to a Windows Media Player format. After you have clicked this file, click "Open" at the bottom of the opened window.

5. Click "OK" on the Web page in order to see four new options on the page.

6. Choose the "go to the next step" option and a drop-down box will appear on the Web page.

7. Click the drop-down box and then select "MPEG" or "WMV." Either format is compatible with Windows Media Player. After you've made your choice, click "OK" on the Web page to move on.

8. Click the "Start" button on the Web page to begin converting the Quicktime video. After the file has converted to a Windows Media Player file, a download link will be listed at the bottom of the page.

9. Click the download link to save the new Windows Media Player file on your computer.

Zamzar

1. Go to the Zamzar file conversion website.

2. Click "Browse" on the left portion of the website. A window will open. Then, select the Quicktime video inside the window that you wish to convert to a Windows Media Player format. Click "Open" at the bottom of the opened window.

3. Select "mpg" in the drop-down box that is to the right of the "Browse" button.

4. Type a valid email address into the empty box to the right of the drop box mentioned in the previous step. Click "Convert" to the right of the text box that now has your email address typed into it and the Quicktime video will be converted. The email address you typed in will then receive a message from Zamzar.

5. Open the email sent from Zamzar. Click the download link in the middle of that email and a new Web page will open. Click "Download Now" on the right part of the page to save the file on your computer.

Tips & Warnings

• The time it takes for the Quicktime video to convert will depend on the size/length of the video. Larger Quicktime videos will take longer to convert.
