Add vertical line to your Access report.

Microsoft Access is a relational database manager that allows you to build tables and forms that will compile to create a printable report. Reports are designed with fields that correspond to database tables. When designing the layout of a report, you have the option to add borders to each field. A border will insert lines that print or display on the report. With Access, you can add vertical, horizontal or grid lines simply by formatting the field accordingly.

Instructions

    • 1

      Open Access on your computer.

    • 2

Load the project file that contains the report. Click on "File" at the top of the screen and locate your project. Click "Open" to load the project.

    • 3

Locate the report you want to add lines to and open it on the screen. Click on the reports menu at the left side of the project screen and click on the proper report.

    • 4

Highlight the fields that require vertical lines. Click on the first field; press the "Shift" key on your keyboard. Use the arrow key on the keyboard to expand the highlight to cover all fields you wish to alter.

    • 5

Move to the "Format" tab at the top of the screen.

    • 6

Select the last icon in the center section of the Format screen. The first section contains font options such as font style. The center section has three stacked icons beginning with font color. The last icon applies borders. Click on the down arrow to open the border options.

    • 7

Choose the vertical line that you want. You will see several types of borders, both horizontal and vertical. Click on the option that adds the line you want. One option will place a vertical line on the right side and one will add a line to the left side. You can also choose to add lines to both sides.
