Connect two routers with a T1 connection via ethernet cables

A fiber-optic T1 connection delivers high-speed data transfer to and from computers, typically for blazing fast Internet use. When setting up a home or business network with multiple computers but a single T1 line, you can connect two routers to the T1 line using ethernet cables. The cables connect the routers to the T1 line in a hookup known as pigtailing.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect the T1 line to a LAN (local area network) port on the first router.

    • 2

Plug one end of an ethernet cable into one of the free ethernet ports on the first router, pushing the plug straight in until it locks with a click.

    • 3

Connect the plug on the other end to one of the LAN ports on the second router.

    • 4

Add computers to the network with a physical connection by hooking up an ethernet cable between a port on one of the routers and the PC. Or connect a wireless modem to the first router with an ethernet cable to go online with computers equipped with wireless cards.

Tips & Warnings

  • Turn off or unplug the routers while connecting the two components with an ethernet cable.
