Flashing a 2Wire modem is a troubleshooting step that is used to fix a variety of issues. Flashing means reloading the modem's firmware from scratch. If the modem stops working and the issue cannot be resolved by adjusting the settings, a firmware flash may be recommended. Also, if the graphical user interface of the modem is not functioning properly or not accessible, a firmware flash is required. The firmware flash requires a CD that is included by the Internet service provider when the modem is purchased. If it was purchased in a store the CD should be included in the box.

Instructions

Open Internet Explorer and type "http://homeportal/tech/upgrade.html" in the address bar. This will open a prompt to place the 2Wire modem into upgrade mode.
